A high percentage of job vacancies are filled by developing & promoting internal staff and we are passionate and care about the development of all employees.
We support learning that champions continuous professional development and that ensures the Group can continue to improve its services and achieve its organisational objectives.
When you join East Thames you can expect to receive important and useful information about East Thames including our mission, values and key aims; what you can expect from East Thames for instance your terms and conditions of service and what East Thames can expect from you, for example the code of conduct.
We know that joining a new organisation can sometimes be challenging and disorientating, so we will ensure that you have at least one full day facilitated induction to the Group. This will include a little about the history of East Thames’, our structure and services and a bus tour to take in some of our developments and services in the community.
You will also have a full workplace induction with your line manager and colleagues - this can be anything from two weeks to three months depending on what you will be doing. We expect this time to be fun, challenging and rewarding and we hope that by the end of the induction you will understand East Thames and your place in it.
We value continuous professional learning at East Thames and to support this we offer a variety of learning and development opportunities. One of these is a quiet area where you can choose to read a book or magazine from our library, go online and carry out research or practice skills with an interactive CD or DVD.
Every six months we produce a new set of internal learning and development courses and learning events tailored to meet the needs of the business and employees’ learning needs.
Our aim is to constantly refresh all the learning courses we provide and we work to ensure that they are relevant, challenging, high quality and fun.
There may be some courses that you will need to do because of the type of job you will doing, for example Health and Safety courses. Your manager will identify these with you.
We encourage all employees to participate in learning - and even facilitate courses if they have a particular skill or knowledge they want to share. We also ask for regular feedback about the quality of our courses to ensure that they are successful and appropriate.
We aim to make your first weeks at East Thames a welcoming and positive experience.
After you formal 5 day induction programme your manager will have organised an extended programme for you.
Although the first few weeks and months are important we see induction as just the beginning of your continuous development and improvement.
We want East Thames to be a great place to work and learn and we are working towards developing a coaching and mentoring culture in the workplace.
We hope all employees will be able to practise and use the skills of coaching and mentoring in their work and we provide learning courses and other literature and resources to support the development of these skills.
