East Thames

Jo San Austin

Working with the community at East Thames Group.

My job is a way of giving something back to the community and I love it because you get the chance to be creative.

Jo San Austin, community involvement officer

I’ve worked in the Community Involvement Team for about a year.

I really enjoy working with residents and encouraging them to get involved. One of the big projects I am working on at the moment is called Action for Redbridge. This is a joint project between East Thames, L&Q, Redbridge Homes and Redbridge Council and it is funded by East Foundation.

As part of this project I am running a free multi-sports taster session for young people aged 9-19 in Newbury Park over the half-term holiday. Today I am delivering flyers to let people in the area know about this opportunity and next week I will be at the taster sessions getting involved in dancing, basketball and boxing!

People don’t realise how many different opportunities there are available to them, at the moment we support a young people’s forum, customer panels, residents’ associations, estate inspections and provide training for residents who want to get engaged but may need a little bit more confidence or skills.

My job is a way of giving something back to the community and I love it because you get the chance to be creative - I can have up to eight different projects going on at once. I think there’s definitely something for everyone, so please get in touch!”
